Course Title: Robot Operation and Control
Duration: 4 Hours
Course Modalities:
- In-Classroom (166 West Main Street, Suite 204B, Mesa, AZ 85201)
Understanding how robots work is only the first step. Real value comes from the ability to control, operate, and manage robotic systems in practical environments. This course builds on foundational knowledge by focusing on how humans and systems interact with robots through commands, interfaces, and feedback loops.
Participants will learn how to control robots using different interaction models, send commands through APIs and interfaces, monitor system behavior through telemetry and feedback, and operate robotic systems safely and effectively in real-world environments.
This half-day course focuses on how robotic systems are operated and controlled in real-world environments. Participants will explore how humans interact with robots, how commands are issued through APIs and control interfaces, how robot state is monitored through feedback systems, and how operational decisions are made during real deployments.
The course emphasizes practical control workflows rather than theoretical design, enabling learners to understand how robots are actually used in production environments. Topics include human-robot interaction models, command execution pipelines, system monitoring, and operational constraints including safety and reliability.
Control a real humanoid robot. In this course, you will issue commands through the ASIMOV V1 Cloud API, monitor joint states in real time, interpret live telemetry from 25 actuators, and experience firsthand what happens when commands meet real-world physics. During hands-on sessions, you will send commands to the robot, observe execution delays, and use the teleoperation interface to experience the gap between intent and action on a real machine.
By the end of the course, learners will be able to control robotic systems, interpret system feedback, and manage robot operation in real-world scenarios, forming the foundation for behavior design and autonomous system development in later courses.
Students will be able to:
- Explain different human-robot interaction models and how control responsibility is shared between humans and systems
- Describe how commands are issued to robotic systems through APIs, interfaces, and teleoperation systems
- Explain how robots execute commands and how execution behavior is affected by system constraints
- Interpret system feedback including telemetry, status signals, and operational state
- Identify operational risks and constraints when controlling robots in real environments
- Analyze how control decisions impact robot performance, safety, and reliability
- Apply structured reasoning to operate and manage robotic systems in real-world workflows
Modules:
- Human-Robot Interaction and Control Models
- Command Structure and Validation
- Command Execution and Latency
- Monitoring, Feedback, and System State
- Operating Robots in Real Environments
- Final Exam
